2024 Update
We are immensely proud to be able to announce that the Halliday & Hasan Archive will be going to the National Library of Australia. We will provide more information on when the handover will happen as it comes to hand.
A second-hand bookstall at ISCF49 at UNSW raised $552 for the archive. Many thanks to those who generously donated books, to those who purchased them and to the wonderful volunteers at ISFC49 who ran the stall..
Our 2023 fundraising efforts have enabled us to re-engage a professional archiving company to continue the work of cataloguing the unpublished materials of Professor Michael Halliday and Professor Ruqaiya Hasan.
The H&H Archive Working Group would like to thank participants and organisers of the ASFLA Conference at the University of Wollongong for donations raised during the conference. We are also immensely grateful for the generous donations from individuals within the SFL community.
What we have achieved so far
Through donations already received from the Australian and International SFL associations, and from members of the Indonesian SFL community, the Working Group was able to employ professional archivists to get cataloguing and archiving underway.
What we need to do next
Funds received in 2024 will be used to enable the following initiatives: finalizing cataloguing/archiving; establishing medium-term digital and physical storage of the archive (including website development); and digitization of the archive so that it can become publicly available internationally.
What you can do to help
Please make a donation today to support this cause and help the archive to achieve the objectives listed above. Your generosity will make a difference to preserving the legacies of these two giants of linguistics. We welcome donations both in Australian dollars and in other currencies from international donors. Please follow the relevant section below:
Donations made within Australia (Using AUD$)
In order to minimise the fees and costs in establishing a donations portal, we ask that people with an Australian bank account make a direct credit to the ASFLA Archive Fund bank account, and to record your donation in the Donation Tracker form below.
Account Name: Australian Systemic Functional Linguistics Association BSB: 082-021 Acc. No: 937922194 Branch Address: Tenancy 20C 1 Bay Street, Ultimo, NSW, Australia, 2007 Swift Code: NATAAU3303M |
This means that if you are donating from an Australian bank account 100% of your donation will go towards the archiving project. [Please note that ASFLA is not registered for DGR status, so this means that donations to the H&H Archive Fund are not tax deductible in Australia.]
International donations (in other currencies)
We invite international donations to be made either using a transnational bank account (e.g. Wise) directly to the account above, or via our PayPal account, using the donate button here which will take you directly to PayPal.
Once you have made your donation to the above bank account (or PayPal), we request that you complete the following Donation Tracker form for our record keeping.Unfortunately, we are unable to make the process fully anonymous, but the identity of donors will only be known to members of the Working Group responsible for the collection of funds and account keeping.
Thank you for supporting this important work.
We aim to provide regular updates on how the funds have been used, via the ASFLA Newsletter, the Halliday & Hasan Archive Project page, and a full financial report will be submitted annually to the ASFLA AGM.
